AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a Prestatyn Town under 19 player was accused of racially abusing another player.

Connah’s Quay Nomads FC spokesman Nik Mesney said player Abe Dobson, 17, was believed to have been racially abused during Tuesday night’s game between the Nomads and Prestatyn Town.

Mr Mesney said: “At this time we fully support Abe Dobson, who was believed to be the victim of racist abuse in a recent under-19s game against Prestatyn Town.

“However, we would prefer to reserve commenting until the Football Association of Wales (FAW) has officially released a statement on the situation.”

He added: “In accordance with our anti-discrimination policy, gap Connah’s Quay Nomads FC will not tolerate racist, sectarian or bigoted harassment or other discriminatory behaviour, whether physical or verbal, and we work to ensure such behaviour is met with appropriate action in whatever context it occurs.”

Mr Mesney said he believes the Prestatyn Town player was sent off as a result of the incident.

An FAW spokesman said it was aware of the incident and was investigating.
He added: “The referee has submitted his report of the match and of the sending off incident.
“We are investigating and looking into what happened.”

Tony O’Reilly, community director of Prestatyn Town, said the club was aware of the situation and would conduct an internal investigation into the matter.

He said no further comment will be made until the club had seen the referee’s report.
