Kinmel Bay family delighted as Disney wish is granted for four-year-old Harvey

THE parents of Harvey Tulsie, who was born with a rare medical condition, are hoping for a brighter year after their son’s wish to visit his favourite heroes was granted.

Harvey, who has Congenital Disorder of Glycosylation Type 1A – a condition only one in 700,000 children are born with, will meet Spiderman and Buzz Lightyear when he visits Disneyland Florida to celebrate his fifth birthday.

The trip to Disneyland came on the cards after a friend nominated the family to the Make a Wish Foundation – an organisation that grants “magical wishes” to children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions.

Harvey’s Mum and Dad, Rachel and Stephen Tulsie, as well as nine-year-old sister Leah will be joining the four-year-old on the trip in March.

Mr Tulsie, of Kinmel Bay, said: “It was a surprise. We hadn’t really heard of the Foundation and they came round just before Christmas. Harvey absolutely loves Toy Story - we are all very excited to be going. We don’t know all the exact details yet but we will be going for a week and it will be lovely to be able to celebrate Harvey’s birthday there.”

Mrs Tulsie added that Harvey had also been accepted into Ty Gobaith Hospice in Conwy.

She said: “Harvey is a poor sleeper and he has trouble regulating his temperature at night. He also has had night seizures before now which leaves him disorientated and confused which leads him getting into bed at night with us. At the hospice we can have time together but the staff will intervene at night so Harvey’s dad and I can have a rest.”

Last year, as a result of fundraising, the family were able to travel to a first world conference in Barcelona.

Mrs Tulsie said that the trip has helped her and her husband a great deal in terms of learning more about their little boy’s condition.

“It has been very difficult not knowing what the future holds for our son, but we are more clued up and we feel we can manage it a bit more,” said Mrs Tulsie.

“We feel very lucky to be part of such a kind caring generous community. We thank everyone for their help and look forward to a bright 2014.”
