A MAN who bought his 71-year-old gran a bottle of gin for her birthday had become irate after downing most of it himself - and pushed her over.
A court at Llandudno heard this when Tristan Crompton, 24, unemployed, of Caradoc Road, Prestatyn, was jailed for 26 weeks.
District judge Gwyn Jones said domestic abuse “is rarely a one-off incident.” However, he told Crompton, who admitted assaulting Linda Crompton causing actual bodily harm :”This is the first time in custody. Other prisoners don’t take lightly to those who beat up grannies.”
Defence solicitor Donald Roberts said the assault had been unpleasant but the victim was in court to support her grandson and had forgiven him. She’d helped him throughout his life and Crompton regretted what took place.
Mr Roberts said : "He’s extremely embarrassed and ashamed of what he did to a person who loves him and who he loves." It was an “isolated” incident.
Prosecutor Diane Williams said the gran fell hard on her elbow and bled heavily. She went to hospital and had butterfly stitches.
Judge Jones told the defendant :”You have treated your grandmother with contempt. This was an assault not behind closed doors but on the street. You assaulted your grandmother in full sight of members of the public including her neighbours.”
He was described as having a “look of evil” and the judge said Crompton’s record did him no favours.
A probation officer said the defendant had a troubled upbringing and he had ADHD.
