A COFFEE morning hosted by a Rhyl breast cancer survivor at the Smallest House in Great Britain on Conwy Quay raised £591.50.

Gigi Jeavons, one of the ‘Welsh ladies’ who wear national dress to greet visitors at the tourist attraction, held the event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Research.

The 53-year-old is in remission after being diagnosed with breast cancer in November last year and now hopes to make the coffee morning an annual event.

She said: “We raised £341.50 from the coffee morning itself, but then I found out later that my boss was donating another £250.

“I’m so pleased. It’s much more than I thought we’d raise – especially given how small the house actually it is.”

Gigi added: “A lot of people came to the coffee morning after reading the [preview] story in the Journal – a lot more than I would have expected otherwise.

“They knew what I’d gone through and many of them had been through the same thing, so they came to have a chat with me.

“I wasn’t expecting that really. It’s nice that people feel they can approach you and talk about their experiences, and even that people still do that.

“I definitely want to do it again next year, make it a bit of a tradition.

“In fact, I wish we could do coffee mornings all year round.”
