A SEAL with an injury to its face has been rescued from a beach.

The unwell seal was spotted on Monday (September 24) on Pensarn Beach, Abergele.

The seal was taken away for treatment by the RSPCA.

Will Galvin, RSPCA animal collection officer, said: "This seal was immediately taken to our specialist wildlife facilities at RSPCA Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre for vital treatment for lungworm and rehabilitation.

"Rescuing wildlife like this poorly seal is a huge part of the RSPCA’s work in Wales, and I’m just pleased to have been able to help this distressed animal."

The charity is also reminding the public what to do if they spot a lone seal pup, who they think may be abandoned or in danger.

Will added: “This unwell seal clearly needed our help – but it’s important to remember not all lone seals pups have been abandoned."

Anyone who finds a seal pup that looks fit and healthy and show no signs of distress, should at first monitor the seal from a safe distance for 24 hours. The RSPCA should be contacted if the pup's mother does not return in that time.

Anyone who sees a seal that is sick or injured, or on a busy public beach, should keep their distance and telephone the RSPCA’s 24-hour emergency line on 0300 1234 999.
