A SWIMMING pool at a popular holiday park that was closed due to the public has been reopened.

The pool at Pontins Holiday Park on Barkby Beach, Prestatyn, was closed immediately following an inspection carried out by Denbighshire County Council found “major issues” with the attraction last week.

After complying with the council’s prohibition notice, staff reopened the pool on Saturday, September 1 claiming "the issue was fixed".

Karen Pownall, head of projects and compliance for parent company Britannia Hotels, said: "With regard to the swimming pool I can confirm that the issue was fixed on Friday and the pool re-opened as normal the following day.”

The council conducted the inspection at the holiday park following complaints about the pool as well as the cleanliness and condition of the chalets and catering facilities.

On the day the decision about the pool closure was revealed, a spokesman for Denbighshire County Council said: “We inspected all communal toilet areas and no hygiene issues were noted during the visit. We inspected a number of chalets and found no breach of health and safety legislation. We have also inspected the catering at the site and only minor issues were detected.

“We inspected the swimming pool where major issues were identified and we subsequently served a prohibition notice and the swimming pool was closed immediately."

Ms Pownall added: "As the council have advised, we have co-operated fully with them, and we are happy that they noted there are no health and safety or hygiene issues.

"We do of course have numerous other attractions for our guests to use and enjoy on park and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
