Customers of a Prestatyn community cafe for the socially isolated have been "devastated" by the theft of signage.

Community organisers at Salford Children's Holiday Camp in Prestatyn are saddened that they have been targeted by thieves , believed to have stolen their advertising board from the roadside last week.

Gill Smith, organiser and vice-chair of the management committee of the charity, said: "Our residents were worried in case the café wasn't opening this week when they didn't see the board outside. Our loyal customers were devastated to think that someone could be so heartless as to steal from a community group."

The cafe, on Victoria Road West opposite Clwyd Carpets, opened in January on a shoestring budget of £40 to create a community hub for socially isolated Prestatyn residents, offering light lunches and home-made cakes as well as craft activities and line dancing every Wednesday 12pm until 3pm. .

Ms Smith added: "We have worked hard to develop our community facilities and the advertising board, which was kindly donated by a well-wisher, was a key way of communicating with the community and passers by.

"All of the proceeds from our efforts go to supporting Salford Children's Holiday Camp, which provides holidays for children in poverty who might otherwise not be able to have a holiday at the sea-side.

"It is a very challenging time for charities to raise funds and every penny counts for us - we could not afford to replace the board and will have to manage without. We cannot believe that thieves would steal from their community and a children's charity."

"I know it isn't earth shattering, but it matters to us. All we want is our board back."
