A PARALLEL gold match between a North Wales club and one in Australia has raised £1,000 for the specialist baby unit at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.
The idea sprang from a chance meeting between an Australian holiday maker who played a round of gold at Prestatyn Golf Club with a local member, Dewi Thomas.
Dewi said: “We developed a friendship and the idea of parallel matches sprang from that. We played a game in June in parallel with members of Mackay golf club in Cairns, Queensland, my friend’s club, but because of the time difference the scores were kept secret until both clubs had finished.
“This was the second time we have played parallel matches and we plan to make it an annual event.”
“We asked all our local players for a donation of £20 and we raised £1,000 which we have presented to the baby unit. In Australia they raised money from their competitors for a defibrillator.”
