Ysgol Emrys Ap Iwan

PUPILS at Emrys Ap Iwan have put on a star studded performance with their A level results.

All students achieved at least two good grade passes and more learners than ever achieved the higher grades.

Alex Roberts achieved 3A* and an A in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths.

He said: “Last year I was at Cambridge University and received my AS results over messenger. This year it’s been great to be able to open them at school.

"I was shocked and surprised but extremely happy.”

Alex is now returning to Cambridge to study Natural Sciences.

Many pupils are now gearing up to head off to university. Others are heading off on apprenticeships.

Lee Cummins, headteacher, said that he was delighted with the year 12 and 13 learners' results.

He said: “The pupils have again achieved a great set of results across the range of academic and vocational subjects we offer at the school.

"Each year learners are out performing the previous year which is great to see. However, the most important outcome is that learners can fulfil their ambitions and I am delighted that so many are able to move onto university or other routes based on their stunning performance.

“The sixth form provision in the school continues to grow and develop and these results are testimony to the hard work of the learners and staff who have worked tirelessly to make them happen. We couldn’t do this without the great support we receive from parents and I would like to thank them for helping us make sure every young person achieves at the highest level."

Lucy Humphreys gained 2 A*s (Welsh Baccalaureate and Psychology) and 1 A (English Literature) plus a B but was one mark from an A in History.

She said: “I am really excited to be studying Law at Manchester University where Judge Rinder took his Law degree.

"Thank you to all the staff who worked so hard to help me achieve such excellent grades.”

Ruby Edgeley achieved 3As in History, Psychology and English Literature and an A* for her Welsh Baccalaureate.

"Almost all students have obtained the grades or points score required for them to enter the university of their choice - attaining or getting higher than their personal, and often challenging, targets.

"It is also interesting to note that a far greater number of pupils were given unconditional offers for a place in university or college this year."

The proud Ysgol Glan Clwyd headteacher added: "We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our students the very best as they take the next step in their careers, and thank their parents/guardians, who have given valuable support to their children and the school over the years."
