TRAVELLERS who pitched up on a Prestatyn field have left piles of rubbish.

Caravans arrived on the field, next to Bastion Road, last Monday. They later moved further round, by the entrance to the cricket club.

The travellers finally vacated the site after they were served a notice to quit the site by Denbighshire County Council (DCC) Asset management. The were still there on Monday (August 13) but it is understood they left later that day or early Tuesday morning.

Speaking on Monday, cllr Paul Penlington, of Prestatyn North, said: "Denbighshire County Council day travellers usually move on just before the court appearance and I expect that to happen tonight or first thing tomorrow. If they don’t move, the local authority will direct bailiffs to evict them."

Despite being given big bags, travellers still left a mountain of rubbish at the site. Denbighshire County Council workers were left to clear up the mess.

Cllr Penlington added: "It is hard to be sympathetic to the needs of the travelling community when so many disregard the needs of our towns.

"Travellers have made regular stop offs in Prestatyn in recent years, each time residents lives have been disturbed by late night noise and anti-social behaviour and each time, DCC have had to clean up when they’ve left."
