A SERVING soldier and his partner are to swap the frontline for a life surrounded by roses, lilies, peonies and other beautiful blooms.

Pete Fletcher, 39, and florist Ed Furber have joined forces and opened Blooming Gorgeous Floristry, located on Rhuddlan High Street.

Pete is currently serving in the armed forces but will retire in October after 21 years. He will then join Ed, who has experience in retail floristry and has been trained to diploma level, full time.

The pair’s ultimate goal is to eventually have a coffee shop/florist’s.

Ed, 27, said: “The idea of the business came about as Pete was due to leave the Army and wanted something more than employment. We chose floristry as I am experienced in floristry.

“We have both always wanted to have own business. This is also something we also both had in common when we first met. I think we will complement each other with our fresh ideas and good working relationship. Pete is very much a perfectionist behind the scenes and I am a perfectionist with my work.”

Ed said the art of floristry gives him “great choice”.

“I am able to express my feelings in my work,” he added. I find it very therapeutic and enjoyable. Pete enjoys learning everything new to him.”

Pete joined the Army in 1997 and has spent 17 years in the infantry, serving with 2nd battalion the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. He later internally transferred to the military provost staff regiment and has spent the last three years in this role.

Ed said: “Pete is excited for the new challenges ahead. Currently, he comes home every weekend when he is not on duty.”
