A FLEET of 'fast and furious' vintage vehicles has carried pupils of a Rhyl school across the finish line.

In a novel twist on the traditional prom, seven of Ysgol Tir Morfa's year 14 leavers were chaperoned extravagantly to the Rhos Fynach in Rhos-on-Sea in their own classic car.

A variety of business owners donated the classic cars for the community special school's event, with the theme of The Fast and the Furious , including a two Rolls Royce convertibles, a Porsche Carrera, a red Ferrari, a Land Rover and silver Mercedes.

Teacher Accalia Edwards said: "The students loved it, as did the parents and staff. They got to sit in all of the cars and have their pictures taken in all of them before they chose which ones they wanted to travel to the prom in."

"They loved this, and arriving at the destination meeting their parents and friends was amazing."

The school's newest tradition for Post 16 pupils - aged 16 to 19 - began last year, as a solution to having two few year 14 pupils to fill a limousine imagined by Mrs Edwards, her husband Ian and fellow teachers Simon Matthews and Cath Herrod.

Mrs Edwards added: "Our leavers have been with us for three years, but some have been in the school their whole academic life at Tir Morfa - two leavers this year had been there for 16 years. It’s an emotional time but exciting for them to be moving on and going to college.

"The evening is filled with special moments, these kids don’t have enough local social opportunities so seeing them all dressed up enjoying themselves is ace. They love getting dress up with their friends.

"This year one of our students also got to help with the DJ, which was fab for him, he would love to be a DJ and loved the opportunity to have a go."

"It is a highlight of the year."
