A CONSULTATION is being launched over plans to build apartments in Prestatyn, aimed at tenants with limited mobility.

Denbighshire County Council is hoping to submit an application for 15 apartments on council-owned land at the Dell, off Forddisa. If planning application is approved, five one/two bedroom apartments - specifically designed for wheelchair users - will be built on the ground floor.

On the upper floors there will be 10 one/two bedroom apartments which will be accessible by lift and adaptable for tenants with limited mobility.

Cllr Tony Thomas, lead member for Housing, Regulation and the Environment, said: “We know from the waiting list for housing in Denbighshire that there is a need for apartments in Prestatyn which are suitable for older people.

“The council owns this piece of land which we believe would make a suitable location for such a development because it has level access to the nearby shops and services in the town centre.

“Creating accommodation like this helps people stay in their own homes longer and is part of the commitment in our corporate plan to work with people and communities to provide more housing and build independence and resilience.”

There will be parking space for each apartment and three spaces for visitors.

Denbighshire Housing will be providing 170 additional Council homes throughout the county over the next four years.

The Dell will be the first new build scheme to be delivered through this programme.

Documents - to be submitted along with the planning application - have been drafted by the local authority.

Residents can comment about the proposed development by visiting www.denbighshirehousing.co.uk/thedell; writing to Denbighshire Housing, PO Box 62, Ruthin LL15 9AZ or housingdevelopment@denbighshire.gov.uk.

Deadline - Wednesday, August 8.
