A NEW toddler cycle track is already gaining popularity at Rhyl Botanical Gardens.

The area allows children, learning to ride a bike, the chance to practice in a road free and safe environment.

The track was created following support from the WREN FCC Community Action Fund and money raised by The Supporters of Botanical Gardens.

It is aimed at toddlers learning to cycle and children aged under eight.

Janet Wright, chair of the support group, said: "We are grateful to WREN for their generous grant and to Denbighshire County Council for its help in progressing the toddler cycle track project.

"Many residents have shown their support to re-create the facility, with several remembering using the original as children."

The project was managed by Denbighshire Council's senior engineer Mark Evans and was built by Lawson Construction.

"The work to create the track started in October last year," Janet added.

"We had the snow and the bad weather so we had to wait for the ground to dry out, but we still got it open before the fun day and it was officially opened by cllr Pete Prendergast and cllr Pat Jones.

"People have already been bringing their children down.

"It is still a work in progress - we have re-applied grass and seed and we will continue to enhance it.

"We wouldn't be able to do anything like this without the grant and funding/money raised."
