THE NHS has been celebrated with cake and giant cards at street parties in Rhyl and Prestatyn.

Marking 70 years since the NHS was created by Aneurin Bevan, Prestatyn and Rhyl Labour branches for birthday parties on Prestatyn High Street and at the White Rose Centre.

To honour the occasion, branch members gave away balloons, sweets, stickers and birthday cake to members of the public and also asked for signatures and messages on our giant NHS birthday cards.

Gill German, vice chair of the Prestatyn Labour party branch said: "It was great to celebrate and engage with the public on this and there was a lovely atmosphere around the stalls.

"Many people took the opportunity to explain to their children how healthcare depended on our ability to pay before 1948 so it was a brilliant education opportunity in that sense.

"Some people also signed the cards in memory of loved ones and talked about the great care that they and their families have received."

The branch members were joined by the AM for the Vale of Clwyd, Ann Jones at both events, which took place in the morning in Prestatyn and then in the afternoon in Rhyl on Saturday July 7.

Mrs Jones said: “I was delighted to join to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the NHS.

"The celebration was also a big thank you to the NHS staff who work tirelessly and provide the high quality healthcare we all rely on.

"I am proud that the founder of the NHS was a Welshman, Aneruin Bevan.”
