The hard work of fledgling Rhyl musicians has been given the spotlight.

More than 100 pupils from Rhyl schools staged A Bit of a Show in the Town Hall to a full house of parents, friends and families.

The concert was sponsored by Rhyl Music Club as part of its community music initiative and was under the direction of Denbighshire County Council's Music Development Officer, Eleri Watkins.

The club's chairman David Birch said after the event "The enthusiasm and hard work of all the children on the night resulted in a highly entertaining show which had to be performed twice to cater for the capacity audience on the night.

"Rhyl Music Club has worked with local schools for the last few years and, given the popularity and success of this year's project, looks forward to continue doing so."

The performance, on Tuesday, June 26, featured songs from hit musicals by pupils from Rhyl High School, Blessed Edward Jones High School, Ysgol Tir Morfa and Ysgol Mair also included a special appearance by young men of the Britain's Got Talent finalists Only Boys Aloud.

Together with choreographer Claire Tranmer, the schools had chosen and practiced favourite hit songs from shows such as Les Miserables over a number of weeks and were thrilled to then have the opportunity of performing them live on stage.

The event was made possible through funding from the Gwynt y Môr Community Fund.
