REGGAE heavyweights are on the way to Rhyl, promising a night of pure roots with traditional 'sound system' style.
Aberystwyth’s Idris Sound System and vocalist Ramon Judah are bringing their heavy bass and home-made speaker set-up to High Street venue the Late Lounge for the HIM 126th Earthday Celebration on Saturday, July 21 at 9pm.
Idris Sound System is a traditional roots reggae combo, comprising Midlands duo Niall Bowdler and Asha B, who have been flying the flag for 'sound system' – a Jamaican phenomenon involving impromptu collections of 'deejays' and MCs with portable speaker set-ups – throughout Wales and the Midlands since 2016.
They are also influenced by such reggae bands as Jah Shaka, Culture, Burning Spear, Aba Shanti I, Iration Steppa’s and The Abyssinians.
Adding to their vinyl-spinning and chest-rattling bass-lines is Ramon Judah, one of the top British sound system vocalists and a true veteran 'toaster'.
Tickets are £7 from i-want_tickets.com or £9 on the door.
