A POPULAR seaside cafe is to reopen its doors to visitors this Saturday.

The operators of the Beach Hut Café & Bar at Nova, Prestatyn, have taken over the running of the former Café Cymru building on the town’s seafront.

The OBL Group has been working alongside Denbighshire County Council to ensure the popular site is up and running in time for the summer.

Renamed Beach Hut Snacks, the outlet will be part of the Nova centre’s food, drink and retail offers which include the Beach Hut Café & Bar and Beach Hut Shop.

Julie Thompson, general manager of the Beach Hut sites, said a longer-term plan was being worked up to take the former cafe forward.

She added: “Given the prominent location and local feedback, the priority is to get Beach Hut Snacks open for the summer so initially it will be largely take-out with food and drink to-go and some activities for children.

"There will be seating and tables available too. Beach Hut Snacks will share the same branding as our other Nova offers, keeping everything in line, ensuring consistency in our offer and approach and creating a positive first impression for people visiting the seafront.

"We’re very aware of the environment so will be investing in additional bins to help keep the seafront clean and tidy. We are also actively sourcing biodegradable, environmentally-friendly products to use wherever possible.”

Earlier this month, disappointment was voiced by Prestatyn town councillor Martyn Poller, new chair of that of the Community and Regeneration Development committee, that the cafe hadn't opened earlier in the year.

He claimed it gave a "damaging view" of the town to tourists.

Denbighshire County Council took possession of the café in late April this year after the business that previously ran it, Cafe Cymru (Prestatyn) Ltd, was dissolved.

Longer terms plans are also being drawn up for the building.

Julie added: "Over the summer months, we’ll be working with the local authority to put together more detailed plans for the building and a possible new offer for 2019.

"We have a number of exciting options in mind and we’ll all be looking at those in more detail to ensure this prominent facility is put to best use going forward,"

Beach Hut Snacks will open at weekends until the summer holidays when it will then be open all week.
