Creative Arts students from Prestatyn,Rhyl, Towyn and Abergele have capped off the academic year triumphantly with a gold at an international design awards competition in Los Angeles.

The Coleg Llandrillo students scooped the win in the Graphic Design/Print Self Promotion category for their yearbook at the IDA International Design Awards in California - beating off stiff competition from around the world.

The award was won by Foundation Diploma in Art & Design students Rhianwen Williams from Prestatyn, Emma Summers of Rhyl, Adele Adams of Towyn, Daniel Wood of Abergele and Luke Duncalf of Colwyn Bay - and tutor Dewi Hughes - for their end-of-year digital graphics project.

Mr Hughes said: “I would like to congratulate the whole team of students for their inspirational project.

"We now have international recognition for Creative Arts here at Coleg Llandrillo.

"For their various projects, they have developed digital skills using Adobe Photoshop software on Apple Macintosh iMac computers, captured photographs using scanners, film and digital cameras, and created digital images direct to the computer screen via Wacom drawing tablets to enhance their art and design projects.”

The annual competition recognises, honours and promotes design visionaries and uncovers emerging talents in architecture, interior, product, graphic and fashion design.

More than 3,000 Cutting-edge designs and innovative products from entrants from 95 countries vied for the top honours at the prestigious ceremony, which,is one of most coveted design awards in the America.

The Coleg Llandrillo students will now join the winners in other categories, and will have their work included in the forthcoming International Design Awards Book of Designs.
