A man that broke the nose of an off duty female police officer yesterday has been charged.

Following the vicious assault during the early hours of yesterday (Monday) Nathan Joseph Killilea has been charged at Caernarfon Magistrates Court today with Actual Bodily Harm Assault and Criminal damage to police property.

The incident occurred after the injured officer became aware of the 30 year old man acting suspiciously in the Sea Road area of Abergele and having approached him, she was punched before he made off.

The North Wales Police officer required hospital treatment for facial injuries consisting of deep cut to the eye and a broken nose.

Det Chief Insp Neil Harrison said: “This was a really nasty attack on a North Wales Police officer, who was acting in the best interest of the public whilst off duty. This individual had the opportunity to make off but instead chose to attack the officer causing serious facial injuries.”

“This incident not only further demonstrates the risk that officers put themselves at on a daily basis to protect the public, both on and off duty, but also highlights the propensity to attack officers carrying out the duty.”
