A COUNCILLOR is starting his fourth term as Mayor of Rhuddlan.

Cllr Gareth Rowlands has been sworn in as town mayor 2018-19.

This is fourth time Cllr Rowlands has served as mayor, having been a town councillor for more than 40 years.

Cllr Rowlands has represented Rhuddlan for 40 years as a town councillor and about four years as a Denbighshire County Councillor.

Cllr Gareth Rowlands, a town council member for more than 40 years, takes over the chains of office from Cllr Andy Smith.

The father of four grown-up children who is married to Nerys, said: “It is a privilege to represent this council and the residents of Rhuddlan.

“I would like to thank the previous mayor, Cllr Smith, and his consort, Sue Smith, for their commitment and hard work over the last year.

“Rhuddlan Town Council is a progressive and modern council, with all councillors working together for the benefit of our community and we continue to improve by pulling in the same direction and working together.

“Together with my wife, Nerys, I will do my utmost to promote the town.”

Cllr Rowlands said the council’s “immediate priority” was to officially open the long-awaited Fresh Air Gym in Admirals Playing Field. The town is also looking to enjoy success in Britain in Bloom, having been nominated as finalists, and Wales in Bloom which will take place in July and August.
