DIXONS Carphone stores in North Wales are under threat of closure, but the company hopes there will be no job losses.

A spokesman for the company said: “There are 92 stores set to close, it is just a fraction out of the estate of 1,100 stores in the UK and Ireland. It will be just the stand alone stores that will be affected, not those within Curry’s PC World stores.”

“We are not expecting any job losses as we will try to redeploy staff to other stores, and we have no plans to reduce staff in other stores.”

The spokesman was unable to confirm whether any of Dixons Carphone stores in North Wales would be affected. The spokesman added: “We don’t yet have a list of the stores affected.”

Dixons Carphone has two outlets in Rhyl, one in Prestatyn, one in Llandudno and two in Bangor. One of the Bangor outlets, one of the Rhyl outlets and the Llandudno one are within Curry’s PC World. The remainder are stand alone stores.

Dixons Carphone shares fell by more than 20 per cent, it is understood the company’s chief executive has issued a profits warning.
