A CLASSIC British musical adventure film is being screened in 'dementia-friendly' format at Theatr Colwyn.

The screening of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will include an interval with live entertainment, provided by and in partnership with Welsh National Opera and supported by Canu Conwy, the Conwy County Borough Council staff choir.

After buying a dilapidated old car and turning her into a magical machine, inventor Caractacus Potts (Dick Van Dyke in one of his most famous) roles, his children Jemima and Jeremy and sweet factory heiress Truly Scrumptious set off on an adventure to the land of Vulgaria.

Ruled by the awful Baron Bomburst, who has banned children and has enlisted the skills of the evil Child Catcher, the action follows the Potts family as they foil the baron’s attempts to steal the car and free the captive children of Vulgaria along the way. The production promises to carry the audience along with the timeless glee of songs including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Hushabye Mountain and Toot Sweets and beautiful cinematography full of sweeping shots of stunning German scenery and fairytale castles.

While the 'dementia friendly' screenings are aimed at people with dementia, memory loss – and their family, friends and carers – they are also open to the general public. The screening is on Thursday, June 21at 2pm. Tickets are £4, with carers admitted free, and available from theatrcolwyn.co.uk or by calling 01492 572888.

Wheelchair users are invited to contact Theatr Colwyn before the screening to reserve a space.
