A PRIMARY school in St Asaph that focuses on 'care and sense of community' has proved to be as good as its word following a positive school inspection

The inspection, carried out during Spring Term by Estyn, the education and training inspectorate for Wales, reported “Good”, the second best of four bandings, for Standards; Wellbeing and attitudes to learning; Teaching and learning experience; Care, support and guidance; and Leadership and management.

Estyn's inspection summary read: “Ysgol Tremeirchion is a happy and caring community where pupils and adults work together effectively.

"The caring relationship between older and younger pupils is a particular feature of the school’s life.

“The vision for an industrious, inclusive and caring school is promoted effectively by the headteacher, staff, governors and parents.”

The report also made recommendations for improvement, which included regular opportunities for pupils of higher ability to develop their extended writing skills and to ensure that comments in the teaching and learning monitoring reports are more specific in order for leaders to respond to them more effectively.

The school will now produce an action plan to address the recommendations from the inspection.

Ysgol Tremeirchion was also inspected by the Church in Wales Inspection team—as the school is situated in a former church—who also provided an overall judgement of ‘Good’.

A spokesperson for the Church in Wales Inspection team said: “The school is a warm and welcoming Christian place of learning.

“A strong and established ethos of love, care and mutual respect for one another permeates all that the school sets out to achieve.”

Mr J. Piper, chair of governors, spoke on behalf of the school and said: “We are very proud of the content of the reports which reflect the care, sense of community and high standards that we aim to deliver here at the school.”
