RESULTS of a long-awaited inquiry into patients' care at a scandal-hit mental health ward will be published today.

The Tawel Fan ward at Glan Clwyd Hospital, Bodelwyddan, was closed in 2013 following shocking revelations about treatment of psychiatric patients.

Independent expert Donna Ockenden, who investigated complaints from relatives, upheld their claims that patients were kept “like animals at the zoo”.

Two more reviews have since been commissioned, with Donna Ockenden reviewing governance arrangements and the second undertaken by the Health and Social Care Advisory Service (HASCAS), examining the impact on individual patients - which is being published today (Thursday).

More than 100 families have been interviewed as part of the investigation.
