THE mother of little Kaila Leigh Narciso who was born with a rare genetic syndrome has paid a heartfelt tribute to her "little angel."

Kaila, who was just five weeks and two days old, died on March, Monday 19.

The baby was born with Edwards' syndrome, also known as trisomy 18, which is a rare but serious genetic condition that causes a range of severe medical problems.

Kaila, who weighed just 3lb 11oz when she was born, spent the first weeks of her life at Claire’s House Hospice, in Bebington on the Wirral. Her parents Katie Roy and Tjay Narciso, who live in Meliden near Prestatyn, were able to bring their daughter home to mark her turning one-month.

A crowdfunding page was set up by friends to support the family and a fundraiser was held in the the town's Barrell pub, on Water Street, which raised £1300.

Katie said: "I want to thank everyone for their support and kindness.

"Kaila was in Glan Clwyd Hospital on the children's ward, they were amazing. We would like to thank the hospital, Liverpool women's, Alder Hey and the hospice for all they did.

"We are very grateful for the time Kaila gave us," Katie added.

"She still gave us an hour and a half to say goodbye, even though her lungs failed due to burst vessel her heart continued to beat.

"The hospice arranged a cuddle cot to bring her home to Meliden.

"She was so small, but had a big personality.

"She hated hats and would shake her head to get them off. She was very stubborn and wouldn't back down if she didn't want something.

"She loved to be sat up on my shoulder and would fall asleep with me talking into her ear.

"She didn't like clothes at all and her favourite thing was a bath.

"She had the nurses at all places wrapped around her little finger and everytime she was put down she would cry and they would give in and give her extra cuddles."

Debby Hywel-Jones, manager at the Barrel pub, said: "I had never heard about the Edwards Syndrome before, until Kaila. It could happen to any one of us, it just reminds us of how lucky we are."

The funeral will take place on April 6 at St Thomas' in Rhyl. A time has not yet been confirmed.
