A Prestatyn man is to go on trial in August over firearms offences, some of which are alleged to have been found under floor boards.

Defendant David Moore, aged 58, appeared in the dock at Mold Crown Court facing a total of 12 charges.

He admitted four charges of possessing a firearm, revolvers and an air rifle, without a firearm certificate in December 2016.

Moore of Russell Drive in Prestatyn, admitted possessing a shotgun without a certificate in September 2016, and two charges of purchasing ammunition – cartridges – when not the holder of a firearms certificate.

He denied a further charge of purchasing cartridges.

Moore also pleaded not guilty to possessing a Browning Pistol – a prohibited weapon designed to discharge gas or a noxious thing, and three charges of possessing Winchester and BSA rifles without a certificate.

Judge Rhys Rowlands adjourned the case for a three day trial in August and the defendant was rebailed in the meantime.

The court was told that some of the weapons were found under floor boards and Moore’s defence was that he was unware that they were there.

Other weapons were claimed to be obsolete antiques.

A medical report is being produced by the defence amid suggestions that the defendant is suffering from dementia.
