RESIDENTS are being being asked for their say on the next big retail name being lined up for Rhyl’s Marina Quay development.

Supermarket giant Aldi is seeking planning permission - through Marina Quay developers Scarborough International Properties (SIP) - for a new 18,567 square foot store which could create some 100 jobs in both construction and retail.

The public are invited to discuss Aldi’s relocation from its existing Wellington Road site at a drop-in at St Mary’s Church Hall, Wellington Road, from 5pm on Tuesday. December 19.

Paul Kelly, development director of SIP, said: “Bringing Aldi to Marina Quay is the perfect solution to move the leading discount supermarket chain out of a building which is too small and not fit for purpose, while adding vitality and footfall to this exciting retail and leisure development.”

If permission is granted, work is expected to begin during the summer of 2018, with the store scheduled to open in spring of the following year.

The drop-in is a chance to view the proposals and give feedback on the scheme to a team from SIP who will be on hand to answer questions.

The new store could be an important stage in the development of the retail and leisure park which is currently home to Poundworld and Farmfoods – as the Journal recently reported key store The Range is yet to confirm its opening date.

Mr Kelly added: “We have brought Marina Quay forward through some tricky economic conditions and our commitment to Rhyl is paying off now with national retailers looking to come to the scheme.

“This is a great development for Rhyl and complements other projects being developed in the town.”

Planning documents for the new Aldi will be on display from Monday, January 8 at the site office on Marina Quay and at Rhyl library.
