AN AM has welcomed the installation of a new tourism sign which will promote St Asaph Cathedral, Rhuddlan Castle and Denbigh Castle.

Ann Jones, AM for Vale of Clwyd, lobbied for years alongside former Vale of Clwyd MP Chris Ruane about the need for signs on the A55 to prompt drivers to visit attractions in Rhuddlan and St Asaph. Finally, following work by the Welsh Government and representatives from Rhyl, Rhuddlan and Denbigh town councils plus St Asaph City Council together with those from Rhuddlan and Denbigh castles, a new brown sign will be placed on junction 27 of the A55, the St Asaph junction.

Mrs Jones said: “The new sign will promote St Asaph Cathedral, Rhuddlan Castle and Denbigh Castle, which are all valued tourist attractions in the Vale of Clwyd, and will bring further tourists in to these towns.

“The tourist offer of the outstanding Vale of Clwyd for a long time has been the jewel in our crown of tourism which many tourists stumble across.

”This sign will attract many more visitors to our area and hopefully prove a real boost to the visitor numbers.

”I am delighted that this will sign will direct tourists to our delightful attractions throughout the Vale of Clwyd.”

Vale of Clwyd MP James Davies believes that “significant” funding will still need to be located for the sign.

Dr Davies said: “Although there is still some way to go in this somewhat bureaucratic process, I am pleased that progress is being made with the Vale of Clwyd signage.”
