HUNDREDS of people turned out on Sunday to remember those who served and fell for their country.

In Abergele, the Remembrance Sunday parade marched along Water Street and on to Market Street before making its way to St Michael’s Church where a service was held.

Gwyrch Castle was lit red as part of the commemorations. In Towyn, a ceremony was held at the war memorial followed by a service at St Mary’s Church.

Cllr Edward Bateman, Mayor of Towyn and Kinmel Bay, laid a wreath.

The town of Rhuddlan paid its respects with a parade, led by the band of Air Training Corps.

Mair Farley of 2193 Prestatyn ATC played the Last Post. After a service, crowds gathered at the war memorial for a wreath-laying ceremony.

Cllr Ann Davies, chair of Denbighshire County Council, laid her own wreath.

In Rhyl, a service was held at St Thomas’s Church, followed by a parade to the Garden of Memorial and a service at the cenotaph. The parade was led by Rhyl Silver Band. At the memorial, Corporal Chloe Brown laid a wreath on behalf of the Rhyl Army Cadets. Mayor of Rhyl Cllr Sarah Roberts laid the council’s wreath.

In Prestatyn, a Remembrance Sunday parade and service was held at Christ Church in the High Street. It was led by the band of the Prestatyn Air Training Corps.

In St Asaph, Father Torkom Donoyan of the Armenian Apostolic Church attended the commemorations and sang Contakim – an Armenian hymn prayer.

The Dean of St Asaph, the Very Rev Nigel Williams, delivered an address during the service at St Asaph Cathedral. Cllr Colin Hardie, Mayor of St Asaph, was present.

Nathaniel Ramanaden, who photographed the event, said: “The cathedral was very well attended. After the service, the mayor and the civic body left by the west door to the cenotaph, followed by the clergy.

“They were led by the ensign bearer and cathedral choir."

At 11am the Last Post was sounded. The ensign and flags were lowered and there was a one-minute silence before a wreath-laying.

The Bishop of St Asaph, the Rt Rev Gregory Cameron, concluded the service with a blessing.
