PRESTATYN Town avoided an upset to advance to the JD Welsh Cup third round at Hawarden Rangers.Neil Gibson’s side made light work of the banana skin with an emphatic 4-1success, and the Huws Gray Alliance leaders look to extend their lead at the summit this Friday night when they travel to Mold Alexandra (7.30pm).The visitors came out of the blocks flying and took the lead early on when captain and talisman Michael Parker opened the scoring on eight minutes following a period of sustained pressure. This provoked a strong response from Rangers, who missed a golden opportunity to level proceedings when Lewis Cunliffe’s penalty was saved by Carl Jones on 16 minutes.Cuncliffe added to his woes by blazing a chance over soon after good approach play from Alek Walsh, and they were made to pay after 27 minutes when forward Damien Ketley doubled the Seasiders’ advantage with a smart finish. After the break saw Cuncliffe force Jones into another smart stop – this time with his feet – on 56 minutes, and the tie was sealed shortly after when former Holyhead hotshot Ketley notched his second of the afternoon in fine style on 63.The hosts did manage to grab a consolation on 71 minutes when Walsh slotted past Jones following a headed pass from Michael Adamson, but another incisive Town breakaway led to their fourth from Alec Williams.Their misery was compounded two minutes from time when Charlie McDaid received a straight red for a reckless challenge.
