THERE’S more to come.

That was the message from Mark Webster as he successfully made it over his first hurdle at the 2016 William Hill World Darts Championships.

With the likes of seeds Simon Whitlock, Kim Huybrechts and Robert Thornton all enduring first round losses at the Alexandra Palace, Denbigh ace Webster avoided the same fate when he took to the stage on Friday afternoon.

Deadly on his doubles, two-time semi-finalist Webster wrapped up a first round triumph in three sets, winning last-leg deciders in every set during his clash with Mick McGowan, who had earlier defeated Qiang Sun in a preliminary round match.

Mark, the 2008 Lakeside world champion, produced a fabulous 126 finish to win the first set, before a crucial 180 and 69 checkout saw him edge the second. He then capitalised on a missed dart at double top in the third set decider by finding the same target to complete an impressive triumph.

"I haven't felt too well so I'm delighted to be through," revealed Webster, who will take on Terry Jenkins or Darin Young in the second round next Monday, December 28.

"It wasn't great but it was the first round of the World Championship, which is always horrible.

“Mick played quite well and pushed me so I'm over the moon really.

"I've got ten days off now so I'll go and recover and I'll definitely play better in the next round.

“My next opponent should not judge me on this performance."
