A MAJORITY of residents are in favour of a solar farm, energy bosses have said after a public consultation.

Big60Million and Belectric UK hosted the consultation in Prestatyn last week over plans for a 4 MW, 30-acre solar farm on land at Pydew Farm, currently used as the base for the Coastal Raceway grasstrack and banger racing club.

Members of the public attended Prestatyn Parish Community Hall to give feedback and Belectric UK said initial results show 67 per cent of attendees that left feedback supported the proposal, with six per cent opposed.

Should plans go ahead, the solar farm will be built early next year.

Emma Brosnahan, project and development manager for Belectric UK, said: “We are very pleased with the positive feedback. We hold these public consultations so we can speak with local people and learn about any concerns or questions they may have.

"The people of Prestatyn were very engaged and asked lots of questions about the project, the technology and Big60Million’s biodiversity measures.

"The results were very positive and prove that Prestatyn, like most of the UK, supports solar energy.”

The solar farm will operate for 30 years and will produce enough energy to power approximately 1128 homes annually.

In addition to the energy benefits, the proposed solar farm will provide opportunities for the local schools to visit the solar farm and learn about renewable technology and biodiversity.

Councillors Gareth Sandilands and Bob Murray, who represent South West Prestatyn, said: "Great to see that company is now consulting widely with council officers and residents.

"It was great to hear residents positive comments to the to the proposal. We look forward to working with Belectric on behalf of residents as they submit plans for planning."

There is still time to register feedback via prestatynsolarfarm@arup.com, or 01895 452640 no later than 5pm on August 6.
