THE future of Rhyl's crown post office still hangs in the balance.
Chris Ruane, Vale of Clwyd MP, put forward a parliamentary question to ask what progress had been made on the proposed relocation or closure of Rhyl Crown Post Office on the corner of Water Street and Wellington Road.
Under Post Office plans, first revealed in early 2013, the branch would be replaced by a franchise within a retailer at another location in the town.
Paula Vennells, Post Office Chief Executive, responded: “We are in discussions with prospective retail partners who have expressed an interest in working with us on a franchise basis.
“Once we have proposals for the provision of services in Rhyl we will inform our staff in the first instance and then the proposals would be subject to a six week local public consultation.”
Last year hundreds of people signed a petition opposing the relocation of the Post Office to a franchise.
Mr Ruane presented this petition to Parliament as an act of support of the campaign.
He added: “This uncertainly is not helpful to staff, customers or local businesses who benefit from having the Post Office in that particular area.
“Hundreds of people opposed this sale and I would urge the Post Office to reconsider its stance on this and retain Rhyl Post Office as part of the Crown network.”
