FORMER BBC weatherman Bill Giles claimed he can forecast the weather for the next 100 years.

Mr Giles, of Chinnor, near Princes Risborough, says he can predict wind speed, temperature, rainfall, cloud cover and the number of hours of sunshine expected anywhere in Britain up until 2100.

He will be using weather records dating back to 1659 to make his mind-blowing forecasts which other weathermen probably only dream of doing.

Mr Giles believes temperatures will rise by 5C in the next 100 years.

He also thinks rainfall will also increase with 60 per cent of it falling in winter.

He said: "In Buckinghamshire, by 2030-40 the weather will be similar to the south of France but by the end of the century, it will be the same temperature as Greece."

Mr Giles says he will predict the climate by looking at past trends and adapting them to current factors, such as global warming.

He added: "But even if we cut back on our greenhouse gases, it won't stop the global warming, it would just slow it down."

Mr Giles, who has been a weatherman for 40 years, has set up a website at www.wpindex.com and will also be launching a company next month to sell the service to organisations and the public.

He hopes his predictions will benefit those planning a picnic or wedding and organisers of events like Wimbledon or firework displays.

This data will be used to establish an All Weather Index to make his forecast for the century.
