GCSE: Grŵp Llandrillo Menai students celebrate exam results

STUDENTS at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai are celebrating an excellent set of GCSE results.

More than 700 students sat GCSEs and they achieved a combined, overall pass rate of 99.9 per cent, will all college students passed their GCSE in English.

Grŵp Principal, Glyn Jones, said: “Congratulations are extended to all college students on their outstanding GCSE results.

"Many of these students will be progressing on to A-levels, vocational courses, apprenticeships or the International Baccalaureate here at college. I would encourage any students who are rethinking their plans after receiving their results not to panic, but to consider carefully the wide range of options available to them.”

In Conwy, all students sitting GCSEs at Coleg Llandrillo achieved passes in English and a 99.8 per cent pass rate overall.

At Coleg Llandrillo’s Abergele campus Alan Yates,73, from Abergele got a B grade in astronomy and Pauline Clarke, 70, from Rhuddlan got an A grade in maths (Higher Level).

Alan, who has had an eclectic list of careers ranging from a Biomedical Scientist at Christie Hospital in Manchester through running the Bull Hotel in Abergele to being a funeral director, was delighted with his result.

He said: "Astronomy has always been a passion of mine, and the ability to study on my doorstep was a distinct advantage. Our tutor Hilary was amazing in all aspects, and I hope to carry on with my education up to degree level in the next few years."
