SANDCASTLE enthusiasts will attempt to beat a Guinness world record at a festival on Sunday (August, 17).

More than 2231 sandcastles will be needed to be built in one hour at the Prestatyn Sandcastle Festival, taking place on Central Beach, in order to scoop the official Guinness title.

The event is open to everyone - all buckets must be four turreted and at least 14.5cm tall.

Buckets will be available to buy on the day.

Rachael Astle, community events and town support officer at Prestatyn Town Council, said: "The current record is 2,230 and was set in Germany on 13 July 2013.

"We need all hands on deck to help us beat the record. Not only will this be a unique event to get involved in but will be a fun day out for all the family. The sandcastles must be 14.5cm or more tall with four clearly visible turrets."

The record attempt will take place from 11.30 until 1pm whilst the Festival itself will be held from 11am until 4pm.

The event will feature donkey rides, Punch and Judy, balloon modelling and more.

Regulation buckets and spades are available to buy for £1 on the day and are also available in Prestatyn High Street throughout the week at The Dressing Room Boutique, Prestatyn Town Council, Andrea’s Lettings, Something Special, Scala Cinema and Arts Centre, Cup Cake Café and Elevate your Sole.

Mrs Astle said: "We really need everyone to get involved and it is your chance to be part of a World record."
