THE body found in Crete on Monday has been formally identified as that of missing Denbigh man Robert Arthur Jones.

North Wales Police today confirmed that the body was that of the 73-year-old who went missing on the island on June 19.

His family released a statement following the discovery on Monday.

His son Jeff Jones said: “It is deeply upsetting and a big shock to finally receive some news, but it is comforting to know that he was doing something he enjoyed.”

“However we as a family would like to thank everyone for their support, help and contribution to our quest in finding our father, since he went missing six weeks ago.”

“The last six weeks have been terribly stressful and difficult to cope with, but now we have had this news we would like to ask that we have the time, peace and privacy we need to mourn our father.”
