FIVE adults and four children were rescued on a sandbank off Rhyl after they were cut off by incoming tides.

A member of Rhyl coastguard spotted the group and sounded the alarm at about 7.30pm on Friday as they tried to wade back onto the shore off Palace Avenue.

They were 200 metres out from and cut off by two gullies of water - with the children “rapidly getting out of their depth.”

The adults, who were themselves waist-deep under water, were carrying the children when they were picked up by a lifeboat within four minutes of the alarm and ferried ashore.
