PARENTS in Conwy have been urged to check if schools are open tomorrow (Thursday) as workers prepare to go on strike.

Carers, social workers, refuse collectors, street cleaners and teaching assistants in the county will join in industrial action across the UK over pay, with some schools forced to close as a result.

A Conwy Council spokesperson said: “Conwy Education Service will collate a list of those schools that have confirmed they will close. The list will be posted on the Conwy website in due course.”

Dominic MacAskill, UNISON Wales head of local government, explained pay freezes in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and below inflation rises have sent pay packets “plummeting back to the level of the 1990s”.

North Wales Fire and Rescue service has urged people to take extra care ahead of tomorrow’s strike.

Striker numbers are expected to be high, resulting in a reduction in resources available from 10am to 7pm. Safety advice and guidance will be provided via their website and social media.
