THE company behind plans for a crematorium near St Asaph is to appeal against Denbighshire County Council’s refusal to allow the development.

In March councillors went against their officers’ recommendation in rejecting the proposal by Memoria Ltd for the scheme in Glascoed Road.

Local residents and some of the companies on the nearby St Asaph Business Park were among the objectors who said that the development
would cause traffic problems and deter businesses from moving to the park.

In a report to next week’s meeting of the planning committee the head of planning and public protection Graham Boase says that as officers were in favour of the plan the authority would have to engage a barrister and planning consultant to speak at the inquiry at a cost of £10,000 - £15,000.

If the appeal is upheld the council could also be landed with substantial additional costs.
