A LEADING provider of specialist care and education, has bought a Rhuddlan-based college.

The Cambian Group has acquired Pengwern College, previously run by Mencap, which provides a specialised environment that supports young people with learning disabilities, autism, and complex health and behavioural needs.

Stephen Bradshaw, managing director of Cambian’s education services, said: “The alignment in values between Pengwern College and Cambian, and our shared commitment to providing outstanding care and education to young people were core to the acquisition.

"We are committed to ensuring the college remains a leading provider of specialist further education for young people with learning disabilities and complex needs.”

The acquisition represents Cambian’s first offering of further education to young people with learning disabilities.

Learners at the college are supported to access person-centred learning programmes incorporating vocational learning, practical life skills development and therapeutic support.

The college, which has 75 places, is Welsh Government and Education Funding Agency funded and offers placements including up to 52 week residential and day services.
