PRESTATYN Community Hospital has been put on the market, with the sale notice offering redevelopment potential for residential or healthcare uses.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board has appointed LegatOwen to sell the community hospital, which sits in a site of 1.75 acres.

The property, which comprises a substantial two storey Victorian hospital building of 926 square metres, is for sale by informal tender meaning that the asking price will not be stated but written offers will be invited via sealed bids.

Health chiefs closed the hospital in 2012 despite a fight to keep the site open.

Stephen Wade, director at LegatOwen, confirmed that the chartered surveyors was marketing the property on behalf of the healthboard.

He said: “We have talked to planning officers at Denbighshire County Council and discussed healthcare or suitable residential developments.

“We have had quite a lot of interest so far. Best offers are going to be reviewed early June to July - we haven’t got an exact date as yet.”

The former hospital, which was open for 75 years, is set to be replaced by a new community hospital for North Denbighshire which is to be developed on the Royal Alexandra Hospital site in Rhyl. Outline approval for the scheme was received from Welsh Government in December.

A spokesperson for the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board said: “We can confirm that the health board has instructed agents to move ahead with the sale of the former Prestatyn Community Hospital site.”
