POLICE in Prestatyn are trying to trace the owner of a Rottweiler type dog following an incident in Prestatyn.

A woman who was walking her two dogs around 11.04am and 11.20am on Monday, May 12, on the disused railway line, is believed to have sustained minor injury to her arm while trying to protect her dog from a Rottweiler type dog that had tried to attack her pet.

The woman, who does not wish to be named, said: “I walk down there everyday with my dogs. I heard someone shouting and turned around to see a Rottweiler bounding towards me and my dogs. I picked up my smaller dog but it attacked my other dog and I was pushed to the floor as I tried to break up the fight.

“When this happened I was on the floor in a puddle of mud and a bed of stinging nettles with my dog bleeding. I was crying out for help and couldn’t get up but the owner of the Rottweiler didn’t help me and said it was my fault.”

The woman said that the owner, described as being around 40 or 50 and smartly dressed with short, mousy hair, did not put his dog on a lead and then continued to be abrupt with witnesses who tried to help the woman who had fallen to the ground.

The woman continued: “I understand that dogs have scraps but the attitude of this man was awful. I usually have my two friends with me who are quite old or my brothers two young children. What if they had been there? This situation could have been much more serious.

“I was in shock and covered in bruises. I just can’t believe the way that people can treat others like they are nothing. I am so grateful to the walkers who came to help me and the lady with the labrador.”

Inquiries are continuing into the incident and officers are appealing to the owner of the ‘Rottweiler’ type dog to contact PC 2533 Davies or officers at Prestatyn police station on 101. Similarly, police are keen to speak to anyone with information or who witnessed the incident to contact local officers at Prestatyn on 101. Alternatively, individuals with information can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.’
