A TEENAGER who caused controversy by free running over the blue bridge in Rhyl has created a video to demonstrate his “personal progression”.

Jack Bellis, 17, hit the headlines last year when he was pictured running over the arches of the Foryd Harbour Bridge with a friend.

Despite being branded “irresponsible” and “stupid” by residents, Jack continued to train in free running, also known as parkour, and is determined to create further awareness of the activity.

He said: “The video covers Prestatyn, Rhyl, Wrexham, Liverpool and Colwyn Bay. It has taken me a while to film due to it being filmed in the winter.

“To make the video wasn’t really all that important, I find myself focusing on the training side of things - the video was really more something to show my personal progression throughout the year.

“The feedback I've had has been good, I just enjoy the time I do it.”

Jack explained that he hopes that the discipline of parkour, which involves moving rapidly through an area and negotiating obstacles by running, jumping and climbing, becomes more acceptable.

He said: “The controversy after the coverage of the blue bridge changed things a lot really in Rhyl; people were only then realising what parkour was. The local police officers don't bother us as much now as they are starting to understand what it is were doing.

“What I find most enjoyable about what I do is really the freedom of it, you are always trying and finding new ways of moving. I would like to do this as long as I can and just see how far I can really go.

“I wouldn't say Rhyl isn't the best for the activity but it's just like anywhere else, you will always find something new no matter where you go - that’s the freedom in parkour.”
