CAMPAIGNERS will fight on to save a Prestatyn holiday camp - despite a ruling to shut its doors.

Sisters Irene Crumb and Pat Glanville, who’s parents ran the camp in the 1960s, said that it was “not the end” of the Salford Children’s Holiday Camp in Prestatyn and that they were undeterred by the management committee’s decision that the camp was outdated and no longer viable after just seven out of 80 primary schools said they would use it next year.

Mrs Glanville said: “The management committee have deliberately ignored the proposal given by Nick Abbott, the campaign organiser. It clearly laid out a fantastic rescue plan not only for this year but for future years.

“Salford Councillor, Bernard Pennington, told me to my face that there was no intention to sell the camp. I believe there have been lies told.”

Mrs Crumb added: “Oh my god - this is not the end. People don’t want the camp to shut. We’ve heard that they want to sell the land but I am sure that you can’t build houses on flood plains.”

The camp initially faced closure after Salford Council stated they could no longer give the £50,000 to the trust each year to run the camp.

More than 1,500 people have signed a petition against the closure and a fundraiser planned for Saturday is still expected to take place in Salford.

Cllr Bernard Pennington, chairman of the camp’s management committee, added: “I am upset the camp is closing. The committee carefully examined the proposals but we decided the best course of action is to close the camp and put all the money that we obtain into a fund which will be used for the benefit of Salford children

“Children are more sophisticated these days. Money invested could be used to send children to Lledr Hall where they can go rock climbing, canoeing and have lectures.”
