A FORMER award-winning mortgage broker has appeared in court accused of fraud.

In 2007 Marcus Copeland, 43, who ran Copeland Mortgage Services in Prestatyn, was named as Best Mortgage Broker in Midlands and Wales at the Pink Home Services Awards Night.

Yesterday (Wednesday) he appeared before magistrates in Prestatyn on seven charges.

He is alleged to have made two fraudulent mortgage applications to gain a total of £841,000 for himself in 2007 and to have inflated the salaries of five clients in 2006 to enable them to obtain mortgages.

The total sum involved in those transactions was £686,000.

Copeland, of Pentywyn Heights, Deganwy, gave no indication of his pleas to the charges and the magistrates declined jurisdiction.

He was granted unconditional bail to appear at Mold Crown Court on May 2.
