THOUSANDS of council workers will be subject to a revised sickness and absence procedure.
Denbighshire Council's Full Council agreed to an updated attendance at work procedure to help reduce and manage employee sickness for its 4,500 members of staff.
The revised policy will enable the council to manage absence in a more proactive way, aiming to reduce the average days lost per employee, increase productivity and service delivery and reduce the cost of absence.
Cllr Barbara Smith, lead member for Modernising and Performance, said: "We have carried out a comprehensive review of sickness absence levels to identify how we can support staff in a meaningful way but also drive down absence levels and identify and resolve any problems at the earliest stage."
The new procedure focuses on addressing concerns and presenting a clear and structured process for managers to follow and employees to understand.
A new series of trigger levels which will require immediate attention, include three separate sickness absences of any duration in a three month period, five separate sickness absences or a total of 12 days absence in a 12 month period, a pattern of absence that causes concern and a single episode of four continuous weeks or more.
