A BY-ELECTION to fill a vacant seat on Prestatyn town council is to be held.

The election follows the departure of Councillor Sherry Edwards who resigned from her central ward post last month prior to celebrating her 70th birthday stating that it was “time to spend more time with her husband and family.”

A poll, if the election is contested, will take place on Thursday, May 22 along with the European Parliamentary Election.

Anyone wishing to stand as candidate at the election should contact the returning officer at Denbighshire County Council for on 01824 706114 to request nomination papers.

Prospective candidates should then submit their completed nomination papers to the Returning Officer, Room 235, County Hall, Ruthin, LL15 1YN no later than 4pm on Thursday, April 24.

Mrs Edwards was elected to Prestatyn’s central ward in 2010 at a by-election following the death of councillor John Morris.

She said: “I extend my very best wishes to fellow councillors and my successor, whoever he or she might be, as they take the town forward in these challenging times, and last, but by no means least Prestatyn Central Ward residents - probably the best in town but I might be biased.”
