A FIRE broke out on Prestatyn dunes this afternoon near the Ffrith Arena.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene at 12.29 pm with one fire engine attending.

One hose reel and beaters were used to put out the fire which burnt around 500 meters of grass land.

John McGowan, who was out on a lunch time school run, said: “I saw the smoke from around a mile away and was worried it was Ffrith Beach itself as I am running the North Wales Tourism and leisure show later in the year, but luckily it was in the dunes.”

The cause of the fire is currently unkown and fire fighters are still at the scene.
